12:00 pm - Back Home
We're
back, safe and sound, from our Hawaii adventure. When last we spoke, we were
headed to The Beach House at Po'ipu Beach for dinner. For the record, I had
crab-stuff pork with black sweet potatoes and Beth went for the Fire-Roasted
Ahi. As with most of our meals here, both were delicious. We also splurged on a
1997 Silver Oak Cabernet Sauvignon. We then popped over to a late night place
called Keoki's Paradise and listened to a three-piece old time rock and roll
bank play Van Morrison, Jerry Lee Lewis, the Stones and, finally, to Beth's
cheers, the Beatles' entry I Saw Her Standing There. The group (The
Shakers, I believe was their name) had an interesting lead singer who also
played a mean Roland XP-10. Imagine a sort of a grown-up accountant version of
Ernie Davis from the old My Three Sons television series as channeled
through Mick Jagger.
We flew from Kaua'i to Oahu (Honolulu) and then on to Newark airport with no
particular problems other than jet lag. I slept most of the way home, but we I
did watch the movie AI: Artificial Intelligence. It starts out in
child-like Spielberg mode and ends up as Kubrick-I-hate-human-beings mode and
is almost incomprehensible by the end. Unless you're a special effects freak, I
would advise you to skip it.
All in all, we had a wonderful trip, but there are a number of things that I
just didn't have time to write about, but perhaps I will in the future. Here
are a few subjects:
· The Mysterious Island of Ni'ihau
· The Gay & Robinson Sugar Plantation (Kauai'i)
· Pupu Manufacturing
· Beth's Plumeria bracelet
· Captain Cook
·
First Class Vs. Coach Flying on a 10 hour flight
By the way, the sun did come out the last day and we
spent most of it lying on Kalapaki Beach.
Perhaps our luck is changing. |
